Canyon Of The Past AKA My Trip to Canyon Lake Gorge

Stepping into Canyon Lake Gorge, is like stepping back in time. There dinosaurs traverse the gorge at their leisure, well they did at one time. However, what makes the gorge different than anywhere else on earth where dinosaurs once lived, are the constant reminders of their existence in the form of fossils, foot prints and the rock formations that encapsulated them for millions of years. Hiking through the land where dinosaurs once did is such an amazing feeling.

The landscape was as beautiful as it was interesting. Each Layer of rock exposed, showing just how mother earth looked back in the distant past. In places water cascaded down trenches which too had been for some millions of years only recently exposed to the surface by a flood. As the water flowed so did more evidence of long past creatures such as single celled organisms, snails and other ancient creatures. The landscape was beautiful, the fossils amazing, and the gorge existed in a state of silent tranquility as it is a highly preserved area that is not often explored by the general populous. Truely Canyon Lake Gorge is a monument to the beauty of nature and a shining example of why we must protect the earth.
